Our journey to Alp D'Huez.

To all family, friends and everyone at West Heath, we have all arrived safe and sound at our hotel in Alp D'Huez. We left school at around 4:20 and the snow was falling when we got off the coach at Gatwick.

After a quick breakfast in the north terminal we boarded our flight on time, but were unable to take off for another 30 minutes, as the runway needed to be cleared of snow.

It was a smooth flight and some found it a little more comfortable than others.

We arrived in Geneva at 10:15 local time and then boarded another coach which carried us for 3 and a half hours to our destination. The route took us up a mountain which involved 21 sharp turns and a few hairy moments.

After a bit of lunch we were fitted with our skiing gear and were given a tour of the resort by our helpful instructor Liam.

After lovely dinner, and a hot chocolate, we are all settling down to an early night with a big day of skiing ahead of us.

Good night from everyone here at Alp D'Huez. Keep track of all our goings and expect lots more posts from us.

Ps just to let you know I beat Anthony at Giant Jenga..................

Welcome again to the West Heath Ski Blog, this is just another update (of which there will be many) that will follow all the events happening on the trip.

We hope this blog will be the first of many as we look to create them for all School trips and other exciting activities that happen in our school over the year.

The Ski trip is being run as part of our extensive Outdoor Education programme here at West Heath.

Outdoor Education enhances our curriculum and provides student's with the opportunity to experience school trips across a variety of different settings. Visits include Ypres, Disneyland Paris, Derbyshire, Cornwall, Snowdon and camping at Blacklands Farm.

Alongside these trips Outdoor Education also provides students with the chance to gain their Duke of Edinburgh and Princes Trust awards.

For those that don't know, New School at West Heath is for young people with a variety of Special Educational Needs and our vision is Rebuilding Lives through Education. For many of our students their first taste of a school trip is with us and we know how exciting and valuable these experiences can be.

If you're interested in finding out more about our Outdoor Education programme please contact Tracy Willers by Email; outdooreducation@westheathschool.com

On Friday 10th of October, in preparation for the trip to Alpe D'Huez all members of the Ski Team visited the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead. For some it was the first opportunity to try out their ski legs and for others it was a great chance to show off their skills.

We are lucky enough to have been sponsored by Buff, who have provided us with Polar Tech neck wear for all members of the Ski Team.

Welcome to the first blog of the 2015 West Heath Ski trip to Alpe D'Huez.

Above is a picture of the Belle Aurore Hotel where we will be staying. The trip has been a long time in planning and both students and staff are eager to get to the resort and start Skiing.
